Simple Tricks for Cleaning Hardwood Floors

Here are some of our favorite simple tricks for naturally cleaning hardwood floors.

Hardwood floors are some of the most desirable things you can install in any home or commercial space. While their traditional beauty is undeniable, it can be tricky to keep them looking gorgeous for long periods of time, especially if you have children or pets. Here are some of our favorite simple tricks for naturally cleaning hardwood floors.

Vinegar Cleaner from the Kitchen

One natural hardwood floor cleaner is easy to make in the kitchen. Grab vinegar and mix it in equal parts with water. While vinegar isn’t the sweetest smelling thing in your home, the smell will fade completely once you mop and dry your wood floors. Vinegar cleaner also helps to boost the shine in your hardwood floors and disinfect the surface (especially helpful if you have kids!). Vinegar cleaner can be used throughout your home on other types of flooring as well, including tile and laminate.

Shine Bright Like a Hardwood Floor

To boost the level of shine on your hardwood floors, mix together one gallon of hot water, ½ a cup of lemon juice, and ¾ of a cup of olive oil. The water and lemon juice work together to give your hardwood floors a deep clean and the olive oil brings out the shine in your wood’s finish. Always wring out your mop before placing it on the floor so that you don’t need to follow up with any rinsing. Once you’re done, the floor will dry and leave behind a beautiful shine.

Bring Your Hardwood Floors Back to Life

If your hardwood floors don’t have the same vibrant look that they used to, mix together 1 cup of white vinegar, 1 tablespoon of castile soap, and 15 drops of an essential oil (lemon or peppermint work well). These should all be mixed together and applied to the surface of your hardwood floors. The essential oils help to clean your floor and make it smell great.

Small Spots to Clean

Even hardwood floors in great condition can have small spots in need of a good cleaning. If you have small stains or scuff marks, sprinkle baking soda on the dirty area. Scrub it in and then use warm water to rinse the area. Repeat as needed until the stain or scuff is gone and enjoy the results of your hard work!
