Common Problems and Fixes for Commercial Vinyl Flooring

Commercial vinyl flooring is water-resistant and requires very little maintenance, helping you keep focused on what matters most to you instead of having to worry about your floors.

As far as commercial flooring goes, vinyl is a common material that is used. Commercial vinyl flooring is water-resistant and requires very little maintenance, helping you keep focused on what matters most to you instead of having to worry about your floors. It’s a durable material available in a wide variety of colors, styles, and textures, which makes it so commonly desirable among business owners. However, some issues can come with commercial vinyl flooring, so let’s take a look at some of the most common problems and how to fix them.

Dulling Finishes

Over time, the most common issue you’ll start to notice with commercial vinyl floors is the dulling of their surface’s finish. This happens due to small particles of dirt, debris, or sand getting tracked across the surface of the floor, which wears away at the vinyl and makes the finish look much worse. The best solution here is a preventative measure: you can prevent dulling of your vinyl floors by sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, or otherwise cleaning your vinyl floors, especially if they’re in high-traffic areas. Putting down floor mats in particularly high-traffic areas can be a great way to prevent this from becoming a huge issue.

One last note on protecting your finish: you may want to look into floor sealers. These create an extra layer of protection over your floors that can help stop future damages. Just keep in mind that you choose one formulated to work with your specific kind of vinyl floor.

Discoloration on Floors

Dirt, oil, and rubber on people’s shoes can cause discolorations of your commercial vinyl flooring. Once again, this is where regular cleaning can help remove those oils and greases to keep your floor looking as it should. Sunlight can also cause discoloration, which is why you may want to put up curtains wherever windows may be letting sunlight hit your vinyl floors. Some even choose to completely strip the finish of a commercial vinyl floor annually, which removes all of that surface buildup and then requires you to refinish the surface.

Dents and Other Damage

Several issues can cause surface dents and other kinds of damage. Often, it’s due to heavy furniture scraping across the floor, though this can even happen as a result of high heels or someone dropping something. Smaller dents and scratches can be filled with liquid seam filler. Vinyl tiles can easily be replaced piece by piece if they are damaged. If you’re working with sheet vinyl, you may have to remove the affected area and replace it with a matched patch.
