How to Choose the Best Commercial Flooring for Your Office Space

When it comes to choosing the right flooring, there is so much to consider. The needs of residential and commercial flooring are very different, as are the needs of different industries. If you’re selecting new floors for your commercial office space, you’ll want to take several factors into account.

Aesthetics

One of the first things you’ll want to consider when choosing your flooring is the office environment. The environment you create in your office space is a reflection of your business. Not only will you want to pick something that works for your purpose (i.e., reclaimed wood if you work in sustainability) but that matches your needs. For instance, you may want something that prevents slipping or that helps absorb sound.

Safety

If you’re considering durable flooring like marble, terrazzo, or tile make sure to have plans for inclement weather. When it’s raining, snowing, or in other wet environments, these flooring types may get slippery. Adding accent rugs may not work if you have a high traffic office, but in smaller settings, they can be stylish and practical.

Navigate Trends

While we love having a space that is trendy and beautiful, it’s important to remember that not all trends are lasting. Your flooring should reflect your purpose and aesthetic, not the trend of the season. Make sure to choose a flooring style you will love for years to come.

Plan For Damage

When you’re looking for commercial flooring make sure to take potential repairs into account. If carpet gets stained or if laminate gets scratched the solutions are very different than if a tile is cracked or wood warps. Work with your flooring company to figure out what your repair options will be in case of problems. This extra step can save you in the long run.

Maintenance

Lastly, take the time to figure out what the maintenance requirements will be for each type of flooring and make sure the appropriate parties are aware and ready. Having a dirty, unkempt look is unappealing to most, especially potential clients.
